ALL PERSONNEL WORKING IN A ABLS2 AREA SHOULD PRACTICE THE FOLLOWING…
  • Extreme precautions must be taken with contaminated sharp items.  Use alternatives to sharps wherever possible.
  • Procedures are conducted in a class 2 biological safety cabinet provided in the room, and where aerosols or splashes may occur, face shields should also be worn.

ARC Training Procedures
  • You must attend a training session with the Training and Compliance Coordinator and be issued a key prior to working in EB08H.
  • You must have read and fully understand your protocol and be aware of the potential hazards of the pathogens you are working with.

Conducting Your Procedures
  • Infected bedding or carcasses must be incinerated at time of disposal, and need to be placed in a biohazard bag inside the biological safety cabinet.  The bag should be tied loosely and placed in the red biohazard barrel marked “INFECTED BEDDING/ CARCASSES FOR INCINERATION AND DISPOSAL.”   This Excludes PRION Infectious Wastes from room EBO9H.  PRION Infectious Wastes are to be disposed of in EB09H.

Conducting Your Procedures
  • Cages that had infected bedding or animals must be autoclaved, and need to be placed in a biohazard bag inside the biological safety cabinet.  The bag should be tied loosely  and placed in the red biohazard barrel marked “INFECTED CAGES TO BE AUTOCLAVED.” This Excludes PRION Infectious Wastes from room EBO9H.  PRION Infectious Wastes are to be disposed of in EB09H.

14
Conducting Your Procedures
  • Upon completion of your work in EB08H, all biohazard bags should be placed in the appropriate red biohazard barrels, which are located in the animal housing area.  PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PLACE YOUR BEDDING/CARCASSES OR CAGES IN THE APPROPRIATELY MARKED BARREL.  The ARC will process and dispose of the materials for you.
